About Mark Wetjen
Mark P. Wetjen is a financial markets executive and lawyer working at the intersection of government, regulation, and digital assets. He currently serves as President of Backpack US, where he leads U.S. strategy and expansion for a global, compliance-first digital-assets trading platform built on proprietary blockchain infrastructure.
Mark was appointed in 2011 to serve as Commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), where he also served as Acting Chairman. During his tenure, he helped advance reforms to strengthen transparency, oversight, and resilience across the derivatives markets.
Since leaving public service, Mark has worked with companies and institutions navigating the evolving financial landscape—bringing a practical, policy-informed perspective to market structure, innovation, and responsible growth. He has also served on a range of boards and advisory groups and has taught students about capital markets and public service.
Outside of his professional work, Mark is a lifelong outdoor enthusiast, a performing and recording musician, and is active in his local parish.
